Michael Masaracchio

PT, PhD, DPT, OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT

Michael Masaracchio, PT, DPT, PhD, OCS, FAAOMPT has been a practicing physical therapist for 24 years. He is currently the Chair and Associate Professor at Long Island University’s Department of Physical Therapy. In addition, Dr. Masaracchio serves as the Director of the Gross Anatomy Lab and Co-Chair of the Interprofessional Education Task Force. Clinically, Dr. Masaracchio is the clinical director at Masefield and Cavallaro Physical Therapy, where he specializes in the examination and treatment of orthopedic and sports related pathologies. There he coordinates the student program and has served as a mentor for physical therapists completing orthopedic residency and manual therapy fellowship programs.

He is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist from the American Physical Therapy Specialization Council and served on the Specialization Academy of Content Experts for the sports physical therapy examination from 2013-2016. He completed his Fellowship in Manual Therapy at Regis University in 2013 and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. Dr. Masaracchio is currently the VP of APTA New York and has served on the Strategic Planning Committee and Practice Act Task Force. Dr. Masaracchio has published 35 peer-reviewed articles, two textbooks, and a book chapter. He has presented at local, national, and international conferences on the examination and treatment of various orthopedic and sports related pathologies, as well as certain areas of health services research related to costs of care. He currently serves as VP for APTA New York and Vice Chair of the Teaching and Learning Institute for ACAPT.

Dr. Masaracchio brings over 20 years of clinical and academic experience to his role as Clinical Director. He is an Associate Professor and Chair at Long Island University’s Department of Physical Therapy and has led the Anatomy Lab since 2007. His work focuses on orthopedic and sports-related conditions, supported by advanced certifications and fellowship training in manual therapy. He is widely published, has presented at national and international conferences, and has contributed to research on healthcare outcomes and cost of care.
